Developed by the Miami Heat’s Alonzo Mourning’s nonprofit, AM Affordable Housing, in partnership with the Housing Trust Group, the $37.4 million Astoria on 9th features 120 units for seniors earning at or below 22 percent, 30 percent, and 60 percent of the area median income (AMI). The community includes one- and two-bedroom units and offers amenities such as a fitness center, communal kitchen, clubhouse, cybercafé, dog park, and more. Residents also benefit from support services including adult literacy classes, and assistance with grocery shopping, laundry, and housekeeping.
Located just 10 minutes from downtown Bradenton, this five-story, mid-rise community is also near public transportation, restaurants, and churches—adding convenience to comfort. FK Architecture served as the lead design firm, with Project Manager Eladio Nieves spearheading the design effort. Additional project partners included general contractor Hennessy Construction Services Corp., engineer Hamilton Engineering & Surveying, LLC, and interior designer Builders Design.
FK Architecture’s Rajiv Ramakrishnan, Project Manager, attended the grand opening and spoke on behalf of the firm. “As affordable senior housing continues to be in demand, Astoria on 9th offers comfortable living for older adults who also wish to enjoy a highly social atmosphere,” said Ramakrishnan. “FK Architecture is proud to deliver a facility where residents can thrive in an affordable, modern community.”
